Fresh hot bread on your plate in less then an hour. I’m serious!! This amazing whole grain bread is the perfect cooking with kids activity! My son helped come up with the recipe and help knead, shape and design! And the best part is, I get to partake in all the steamy hot goodness
1.25 cups Whole Wheat Flour
1.25 cups Einkhorn Flour*
1 cup WARM water (between 105-110 degrees)
1/2 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon active yeast
3/4 tsp flaky salt + more for topping
2 tbsp olive oil + more for greasing pan
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
In a large bowl mix water, yeast and sugar. Mix until the yeast is mostly incorporated. Let sit 10 mins. It will foam up after sitting. If it doesn’t foam your water wasn’t warm enough. Start again.
Add flour and salt and mix with a wooden spoon. Add olive oil. Knead with your hands for 3 minutes.
Place a kitchen towel over the bowl and let sit in a warm place or set your oven to proof or 100 degrees and sit for 20 minutes
Remove dough from bowl and give it a few turns with your hands.
Lightly grease a loaf pan with olive oil and gently spread out dough. Make a few slits in the dough and sprinkle some flaky sea salt
Bake for about 10 minutes until it is golden brown. If you tap the bread it will sounds hollow
Remove from pan and place on a wire rack for a few minutes. Slice and enjoy warm!!
*Einkhorn flour can be found at some grocery stores. You can replace this with Spelt Flour or do a White Whole Wheat.
